The Government of Vietnam has set a mandate to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030. However, the path to achieving this goal is fraught with challenges: access barriers prevent many individuals from receiving adequate TB care, while out-of-pocket expenses associated with treatment and the rising prominence of private-sector healthcare services further complicate the landscape.
As of 2023, approximately 225,000 people in Vietnam are living with HIV, with nearly 175,000 receiving antiretroviral therapy. However, challenges remain as over 12.800 new infections emerge each year, especially in regions like the Mekong Delta and Southeast, where prevalence is highest. With the Vietnamese government’s National Strategy to End AIDS by 2030, IRD VN is intensifying efforts to align with Vietnam’s 95-95-95 targets.
