IRD VN
— Eliminate Tuberculosis
The Government of Vietnam has set a mandate to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030. However, the path to achieving this goal is fraught with challenges: access barriers prevent many individuals from receiving adequate TB care, while out-of-pocket expenses associated with treatment and the rising prominence of private-sector healthcare services further complicate the landscape.
At IRDVN, our TB programs are dedicated to enhancing access to TB care, strengthening the capacity of local organizations to engage in the TB response, and accelerating declines in TB incidence. We work closely with Vietnam's National Tuberculosis Program and both public and private healthcare facilities to elevate the quality of management and treatment for latent TB, active TB, and overall TB control.
In addressing latent TB, we conduct thorough research and evaluate existing treatment protocols while offering robust support to patients. For active TB treatment, we have joined forces with public and private healthcare providers to implement the 'Double-X' strategy, which includes screening household members and close contacts of TB patients.
To ensure that TB patients complete their treatment, we provide comprehensive support that includes counseling, treatment assistance, and essential resources such as food and financial aid to cover travel costs. Additionally, our community-based mobile chest X-ray (CXR) screening and Xpert testing initiatives are designed to detect more individuals living with TB, strengthening disease control efforts nationwide.
